Signed Vector Timestamps: A Secure Protocol for Partial Order Time
نویسندگان
چکیده
The language of partial order time expresses the issues central to many problems in asynchronous distributed systems. A secure partial order time service would provide a general method to develop secure protocols for these problems. In this paper, we sketch out these issues and develop one such protocol: signed vector timestamps. The majority of this paper is drawn verbatim from the rst author's October 1991 thesis proposal, the rst research into security issues for non-scalar time services and the original presentation of the SVT protocol. A Hierarchical Cluster Algorithm for Dynamic, Centralized Timestamps
Partial-order data structures used in distributed-system observation tools typically use vector timestamps to efficiently determine event precedence. Unfortunately, all current dynamic vector-timestamp algorithms either require a vector of size equal to the number of processes in the computation or require a graph search operation to determine event precedence. This fundamentally limits the sca...
متن کاملSecurity and Privacy for Partial Order Time
Partial order time expresses issues central to many problems in asynchronous distributed systems, but suffers from inherent security and privacy risks. Secure partial order clocks provide a general method to develop application protocols that transparently protect against these risks. Our previous Signed Vector Timestamp protocol provides a partial order time service with some security: no one ...
متن کاملTowards More Reliable Bitcoin Timestamps
Bitcoin provides freshness properties by forming a blockchain where each block is associated with its timestamp and the previous block. Due to these properties, the Bitcoin protocol is being used as a decentralized, trusted, and secure timestamping service. Although Bitcoin participants which create new blocks cannot modify their order, they can manipulate timestamps almost undetected. This und...
متن کاملA framework algorithm for dynamic, centralized dimension-bounded timestamps
Vector timestamps can be used to characterize causality in a distributed computation. This is essential in an observation context where we wish to reason about the partial order of execution. Unfortunately, all current dynamic vector-timestamp algorithms require a vector of size equal to the number of processes in the computation. This fundamentally limits the scalability of such observation sy...

In secure multiparty computation (SMC), a group of users jointly and securely computes a mathematical function on their private inputs, such that the privacy of their private inputs will be preserved. One of the widely used applications of SMC is the secure multiparty summation which securely computes the summation value of the users’ private inputs. In this paper, we consider a secure multipar...
